Social Responsibility

Impact Through Action

billhighway volunteer
Billhighway is committed to empowering our team members, our customers and our business partners to create opportunities for positive social change. One way Billhighway helps support our team members in this is through Volunteer Paid Time Off. Having the support of our team members allows us to do more good in the world and to help more people, and that makes us proud!

About Our Program

With Volunteer Paid Time Off, team members are given paid time off to volunteer for a nonprofit organization that means something to them. Whether it is a program that helps at-risk children, disabled adults, providing food, shelter, clothing or gifts and toys, Billhighway encourages team members to choose a project they feel passionate about which helps to foster a stronger commitment and drives success in the program. Together, we do more good by helping others. “Giving of your time is really a two way street.  The charity benefits and you get something in return, knowing you have made a difference in the lives of others”, states Erin Morris, Client Care Team Member.

Keeping Their Eye on the Prize: Helping City Year Decorate the Halls of Detroit Collegiate Prep

Some of the Billhighway team members spent part of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day doing their part in honor of the National Day of Service. The day was spent in collaboration with City Year of Detroit and United Way of Southeast Michigan painting decorative canvases with college/university logos as well as inspirational saying. These canvases will be displayed in the halls of Detroit Collegiate Prep to decorate the hall as well as serve as a daily inspiration to students to remind them what they are working so hard to strive for.

More about Detroit Collegiate Prep: DCP opened it’s doors in Fall 2011 as a Detroit Public School and is regarded as a Diplomas Now/Michigan Future Priority high school. The school currently only houses freshmen and sophomores but is adding a class each year as new freshmen file in. Vist Detroit Collegiate Prep to learn more!

Marketing Team Spends the Afternoon at Forgotten Harvest

The Billhighway Marketing team spent a few hours of a rainy afternoon helping pack a couple thousand pounds of produce at Forgotten Harvest in Southfield, MI! Forgotten Harvest saves good food from grocery stores and markets that would otherwise get thrown away, and distributes it among the community to feed those who are hungry. In the 2011/2012 fiscal year, Forgotten Harvest has provided over 43.9 million meals to hungry people.

Fact: Every dollar donated to Forgotten Harvest feeds six people. Visit Forgotten Harvest to see how you can contribute or volunteer!

Client Care Team Volunteers at Gleaner’s Community Food Bank

Our Client Care team decided to spend some of their Volunteer Paid Time Off time at Gleaner’s Community Food Bank of Detroit. They enjoyed it so much, that they took two trips! While at Gleaner’s the first afternoon, Client Care helped sort and pack 2,865 pounds of produce–on the second they helped sort and pack an impressive 10,108 pounds! Gleaner’s then delivers all of the packed food to local food pantries, soup kitchens and school programs. Go to Gleaner’s to see how you can help out Gleaner’s in a community near you!

Team Members Help Rehabilitate with Habitat for Humanity

Billhighway team members worked along side Habitat for Humanity of Macomb, a few local college students, the homeowners and the local person enrolled in the Habitat for Humanity program who will be receiving the house when it is completed to rehabilitate a formerly foreclosed home. Our team members measured, cut and installed baseboards of a hallway and bathroom as well as caulked and sealed nails on the baseboards. To help out in your area, check out Habitat for Humanity!
