Success Story

Helping Hands
Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan (Gleaners), headquartered in Detroit, Michigan, provides 41 million pounds of donated and purchased food annually to people in need. “We have ambitious plans to increase the amount of low cost or free food from our supply chain to better tackle hunger,” said Gerry Brisson, President with Gleaners.

The Challenge

Gleaners faced three primary challenges in the areas of finance and fundraising operations:

  1. Limited systems integration
  2. Lots of duplicate records
  3. Not enough donor interaction

They needed a partner that could manage 90,000 transactions per year, and provide services beyond the lockbox. They set out to interview six providers, including Billhighway, to help tackle these challenges.

The Solution

Gleaners is using Billhighway’s Enterprise financial management solution that includes Lockbox 360, a proprietary processing center that supports online and offline payments. Donations and constituent data are integrated with Blackbaud’s The Raiser’s Edge® donor management system through a robust plug-in. An auto-matching intelligence engine helps expedite follow up and thank you notes. This reduces manual data entry, duplicates and errors freeing up fund developers to focus more time on building donor relationships.
