Getting the digital generations engaged in our association is a constant conversation. I think we are better off in many cases asking our own members from these generations than scouring research. Which is why I find the work from the ASAE NextGen Project a useful guide. The NextGen project comes out of a facilitated discovery session of NextGen professionals. Here a few pointers:
- Offer mentoring and coaching.
- Develop meaningful career pathways that show them where to start, what to consider, and what steps to take. Include vivid descriptions of the ultimate destinations on each path.
- Do your part to assert the importance of younger members in your association ecosystem and reinforce, by extension, their value to employers as well.
- Address dues issues so you don’t out-price younger members and lock them out of the system.
