Fifth Win of Detroit’s Best and Brightest Award Proves Billhighway’s Pledge to Employee Development
The Metropolitan Detroit ‘101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For’ competition recognizes and honors companies that demonstrate un-beatable human resource practices and employee development.
The Billhighway Culture is driven by eight ‘Plays’; core values that make up the foundation of every department, meeting, product, and team member. The Billhighway workplace is the perfect balance of flexibility and structure. One of the plays ‘No suits, just innovation’ implies casual dress is welcomed, and not frowned upon.
Billhighway doesn’t believe everyone should dress the same any more than they believe everyone should think the same. All team members are free to express themselves in what they wear and how they think.
Another one of the plays, “Leadership Expected,” empowers every team member to be a leader and be accountable for their commitments and making decisions. In an effort to promote “Leadership Expected,” Billhighway developed two new professional development programs allowing team members to take the lead in driving their career growth at Billhighway.
The Client Care Career Development Program allows team members to spend one day a week working on another team test driving a new position. Team members work on real projects and have their own responsibilities.
This program has led to four internal promotions within the last six months. The newly formed Billhighway Academy is expanding the company’s developer talent by pairing new developers selected to participate in the Academy with senior-level developers for mentoring and advanced technical training, thereby setting them up for success.
Team Member Recognition
Billhighway recognizes individual talents and accomplishments while also promoting a team atmosphere. It is important to ensure that everyone feels respected and appreciated, while motivating team members to perform their best at work.
Individuals are recognized for employment milestones, birthdays, and an All-Star Award is given away monthly. This also includes special days to recognize individual talents such as a Jam Day for musicians, and a Lip Sync contest (for those who are up for the challenge) during the Billhighway Summer Olympics. The team atmosphere is constructed by holding group activities such as work space decorating contests, organizing Billhighway ‘families’ to play Family Feud, occasional team lunch-ins, and quarterly company outings.
